Yesterday, I installed a friend's unwanted copy of Windows 10 Pro on my custom built PC. It worked perfectly fine after I'd installed all of the drivers, and I was actually quite enjoying the newest version of Windows. Until this morning...
I went to start my Steam copy of Grand Theft Auto IV, and it gave me the Windows 10 BSOD. The error it gave was 'IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL'... weird, right?
So, I did what any sane computer person would do - I rebooted. It's response was going to the Windows Logo on the boot screen and... well, it rebooted by itself. It did this 3 times before saying 'preparing startup repair'... for 1 hour. I rebooted again and no luck still. So I inserted the installation disc, made sure it booted correctly into it, and it rebooted on the windows logo. Again.
After my stream of bad luck, I got out my Windows 10 laptop and made a recovery USB drive and, of course, it rebooted on the Windows logo! (yes, it was definetly booting from the USB drive and not the hard drive). I've tried all I can to get into the recovery menu/safe menu to enter command prompt and/or succesfully enter Startup repair, but I can't. Although I only installed it yesterday, it was a long and stressful installation and I've already got countless hours of downloaded games, pictures and Windows Store apps, so it would be sad if I had to reset the PC.

After installing Win 10 32bit it was working fine until updates were unblocked.
After updates were run the laptop would not reboot - the bootloader could not load.
Tried using the Windows 10 recovery media on USB. The following fixes using that did not work: Refresh your PC, Reset your PC, Open a System Restore point (there was a restore point made), Start-up repair, Go back to previous build. Clean Installation fails (it won't format any partitions), Upgrade installation fails.
Despite this, all files are still visible on the computer using the command prompt.
Chkdsk /f /r shows up a (696e647863686b2e 1324) error.
BCDedit fixes haven't worked.
Startup repair fails saying it's the wrong OS, even though it's the same version.
How To Fix Windows 10 Not Booting
I've downloaded the Win 10 recovery media twice and tried a Win 8 recovery USB - same results.

It looks like the bootloader is corrupted but the normal fixes aren't working. Has Windows 10 killed my laptop?
