Super Dragon Ball Heroes (Japanese: スーパードラゴンボールヒーローズHepburn: Sūpā Doragon Bōru Hīrōzu) is a Japanese ONA based on the Dragon Ball franchise, more specifically the arcade game of the same name that premiered on July 1, 2018. Although the series is presented with several alternate scenarios and possible outcomes within the franchise (much like its arcade game counterpart), it takes place after Dragon Ball Super, but before the events of the film Dragon Ball Super: Broly.[1]
The anime will depict the story's 'Prison Planet' arc from Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Universe Mission. The anime's 'first episode' will get an advance screening at the 'Super Dragon Ball Heroes Universe Tour 2018' tournament event for the game at Aeon Lake Town in Saitama prefecture on July 1. Plot[edit]
Following the events of the Tournament of Power, Goku and Vegeta were supposed to be joined in their training on Beerus's planet by Future Trunks after he and Future Mai have returned to the present timeline in their time machine. Future Mai reveals that Future Trunks was captured by an unknown force, and a mysterious figure named Fu confirms that Future Trunks is held on the Prison Planet, a place under the control of Frieza's brother Cooler. Goku and Vegeta reach the planet with Future Mai, encountering their Time Patrol counterparts Xeno Goku and Xeno Vegeta who were sent to retrieve Fu before they are all attacked by a Saiyan criminal named Cunber. The resulting fight against Cunber destabilizes the planet, with Fu escaping capture as Cooler followed, the heroes managing to escape the self-destructing planet with Xeno Goku and Xeno Vegeta returning to their reality. But the event would be revealed to have been part of plan conducted by Hearts, who recruited Cunber and four other inmates (including a cyborg version of Zamasu) for his goal to eliminate Zeno and his alternate counterpart.

In May 2018, V Jump announced a promotional anime for Super Dragon Ball Heroes that will adapt the game's Prison Planet arc.[2][3][4] A teaser trailer for the first episode was released on June 21, 2018[5] and shows the new characters Fu (フューFyū) and Cunber (カンバーKanbā),[6] the evil Saiyan.[7] The first episode was shown at Aeon Lake Town, a shopping mall in Koshigaya, Saitama, on July 1, 2018 and was uploaded to the game's official website that same day.[8][9][10] Likewise, the second episode was shown at Jump Victory Carnival Tokyo Kaijō on July 16, 2018 before being uploaded to the website.[9][11][12]

Fu disappears, and the two Gokus agree to work with each other to escape the planet. Meanwhile, Future Trunks is in a prison cell elsewhere on the planet. | Having defused back into Goku and Vegeta, Goku suggests cutting off Cunber's tail to revert him back to normal. As Cunber fires yet another blast at the Saiyan pair, Goku and Vegeta avoid it and fly directly upward, transforming into Super Saiyan in the process and attempt to get to Cunber's tail but even at his great size he proves to be swift enough to defend himself. As he steps on Goku, Future Trunks rushes in to help and tries to cut off the Golden Great Ape's tail with his sword but is struck hard to the ground. Along with his father, they fire a volley of blasts though they do no damage to him. Even when Golden Cooler fires blasts of his own, Cunber is still unfazed. Meanwhile, Fu continues to watch the battle from his laboratory, smitten by the current events when a nearby computer informs him of the damage to the Prison Planet's barrier and decides to go to the battle himself to control matters. Goku still remains under the foot of Cunber, struggling to get free but is them seemingly crushed. However, Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan Blue and throws Cunber's foot off of him. Charging directly towards Cunber, Goku uses the Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken x20 and strikes Cunber in the face though he is unmoved. Goku fires a Kamehameha though the move is blocked. The ongoing battle causes the barrier to break down even more when suddenly Fu arrives, telling Cunber to watch what he's doing as he declares that he will rein him in. Fu powers up into an empowered state and gathering the energy from the Power Ball to his sword, he strikes at Cunber which causes him to revert to his normal state. Cunber throws a punch at Fu but he easily avoids it. While the others comment on what he just did, Fu tells them to continue their battle as he teleports away, avoiding Cooler's blast in the process. Cunber powers up once more and Goku vows to take him on as he transforms into a Super Saiyan God as Cunber appears to recognize it. | ||||||

| Cunber and Goku's battle breaks the seal around the Prison Planet, while Fu is enraged to discover that his laboratory has been destroyed. | The Prison Planet has been destabilized by the destruction of the shield. Fu battles Xeno Goku and Xeno Vegeta, but their fight is interrupted when Cunber recovers and returns to the battle, attacking everyone on the field. Satisfied that he has achieved his objective, Fu opens a portal and escapes. Cooler pursues him through the portal before it closes, stranding everyone else on the Prison Planet. Cunber launches a massive energy blast at the group; Xeno Goku, Xeno Vegeta, Vegeta and Future Trunks attempt to block it, without success. | Oren and Kamin suddenly convert their bodies into energy and possess Kale and Caulifla, using their bodies to attack the others. Before the battle can continue, Hearts appears with a strange crystal and immobilizes all of them with his psychic powers. | Vegeta and Trunks arrive in Universe 11, and discover that Hearts and his gang are already there attacking. Meanwhile, Jiren is fighting Cunber; they appear to be evenly matched, so Cunber transforms into a Super Saiyan, but Jiren is still holding his own until Hearts appears and calls off the fight. As Goku is winning against Kamioren, Hearts uses his powers to launch a crystal from the Universe Seed at Goku. Meanwhile, Jiren continues to overpower Zamasu and injures him, but Zamasu's injuries quickly heal. Rags attacks Trunks with her crystals, but Goku knocks him out of the way and takes the attack himself. Hearts steps in and sends Rags to join Cunber in Universe 3, before confronting Goku himself. | The battle starts with Goku powered up in Ultra Instinct and overpowering Kamioren, who is unaware of Divine Energy, while Vegeta and the others watch. Kamioren eventually decides to their fists after Goku charges them in a fist fight, managing to land a hit on the Sayian. But Goku is unscathed while Hearts takes note of it, Goku once more overwhelming Kamioren while the others join in before destroying the Tuffle Neo Machine fusion with a Kamehameha. Reception[edit]
The series was met with a mixed reactions from fans of the franchise, as some felt that its status as a promotional feature for the game left them with poor feelings for it, while others really enjoyed the storyline and animation.[13][14] Thanasis Karavasilis of MANGA.TOKYO felt positive about it, stating that fans of the series should at least enjoy the fight scenes. He also expressed that the animation was what should be expected from a Dragon Ball series.[15]
